Storm
Squirts hosts tournament January 13th and 14th
The MBA Storm hosted a Squirt B Tournament
at the Benson Civic Center Jan. 13th and 14th, with six teams
participating. The
Storm will kick off the tourney with a 16-0 victory over the Paynesville/New
London Spicer team. Seven different players will score
while the team worked on playing different positions and passing
the puck.
Mac Beyer will get it started period one
about one and a half minutes into the game with a goal, unassisted. Brody Gimberlin
will pick up one of his own seconds later off the pass from Beyer. Corbin
Heder will find the net, assisted by Tanner Mikkelson and Jordan
Staples will net one unassisted at 10:51. M. Beyer scores
again, assisted by Darion Helberg and Bo Gullickson. Blake
Crandall will also find the back of the net from near the crease,
unassisted. Jordan Staples will finish the scoring in the
period with 3:34 remaining, unassisted.
To start the second period B. Crandall
will net his second of the game at 10:31, assisted by B. Gullickson. T. Picht
will get an assist working the puck across ice to J. Staples with
the hot stick who will score two more, taking advantage of the
opportunity to shoot from the blue line. Tanner
Mikkelson will score at 4:10, assisted by Corey Storck. Taner
Gimberlin puts one in the back of the net with the pass coming
from T. Picht.
The third period finds the Storm coasting
when T. Mikkelson scores, assisted by B. Crandall and Chad Schwarz. Mikkelson finds
another at 12:32 to complete his hat trick, assisted again by Schwarz. M.
Beyer will get a solo goal at 6:03. T. Mikkelson will finish things
off finding the inside of the net at 2:49 left in the game from
a pass on stick from B. Crandall.
MBA’s second game was a win over Breck-Wahpeton White 13-1. Holding
true to form, starting the scoring was Mac Beyer, unassisted. Bryce
Jergenson gets a pass from Corey Storck to score. Jacob Aarhus
will pounce on one at the corner of the net to score, unassisted. Jordan
Staples will also find the back of the net with 28 seconds left
in period one, unassisted.
To start the 2nd period, Corbin Heder will
score assisted by T. Mikkelson and B. Crandall. Taner Picht passes to Beyer for
a goal. Beyer then will give it up to Brody Gimerlin to score. Beyer
also finds a goal unassisted in the second period. Keeping
the passing going, T. Picht will score assisted by Beyer. Morgan
Staton will find the net unassisted once in the second and once
in the 3rd period. Jordon Staples will also pick one up unassisted
in the third period. Bo Gullickson will finish the period
putting the puck in the back of the net off the pass from T. Mikkelson
and M. Beyer.
The Storm will kill off two penalties in
the game and go on to defeat BW-White. Austin Crow will
pick up the win as goalie with eight save in the game.
Playing in pool play for the tournament
was Big Stone-Ortonville who will lose to Breck-Wahpeton Black
8-4. Red Wing will
beat Big Stone-Ortonville 13-2 in the afternoon game. Paynesville-New
London Spicer and Beck-Wahpeton White will skate to an exciting
1-1 tie. Red Wing will defeat Breck-Wahpeton Black 6-2 for
the last game of pool play.
On Sunday, Big Stone-Ortonville will defeat
Paynesville in the consolation game 3-2. In the 3rd place game the BW Black
team will defeat the BW White team 8-2. The MBA Storm will
dominate in the Championship game, winning by a 15-1 margin. In
that game, Mac Beyer will again get things started putting one
in off the pass from T. Mikkelson. T. Picht will team up
with M. Beyer to score the next one. T. Mikkelson will find
the pass from M. Beyer to score at 6:49 of period one. Beyer,
continuing to be around the puck will get another goal, assisted
by Picht. Darion Helberg will find the net with 23 seconds
left in the period, assisted by Morgan Staton.
Period two starts out with two from Beyer. One unassisted,
while the other assisted by T. Picht. Morgan Staton will
sneak the puck past the goalie, unassisted. T. Mikkelson
will team up with Picht. Picht picks up a playmaker in the
game. Brody Gimberlin will find the net, unassisted. Red
Wing will get the last goal of the period.
The Storm will score three in the 3rd period
with Darion Helberg scoring at 11:08 with the assists going to
Corbin Heder and M. Staton. M. Beyer will get a pass from T. Picht to score again
and T. Picht scores the last goal of the game unassisted. Austin
Crow will be in the net for the win. The coaches commented
that the MBA Storm have been improving on their passing game. They
are working hard and are getting better with team play.
The
team is looking forward to playing Alex on Sunday (12:45) in Benson
and then going to the Paynesville tournament to face St. Cloud
and Redwood.
