MBA STORM SQUIRT BLUE TAKES HOME 3RD AT DISTRICTS
The District 15 Squirt B tourney was held in Moorhead Feb. 14-15. MBA opened up the quarterfinal round VS Detroit Lakes. The Storm started the game with two goals in the 1st period and never looked back taking the game 7-0.
The semi final round matched the Storm up against Brainerd. Their previous two meetings during the season had been very close games with each team winning one of them, and this one was no different. The Storm closed out the first period with a 2-0 lead. Brainerd chipped away at the Storm's lead trailing 2-1 after two periods. Two more goals in the third period by Brainerd, put away the Storm as Brainerd took the game 3-2.
The Storm dusted themselves off and got ready for their 3rd Place match up VS Alexandria on Sunday. This looked to be another great match up as the teams tied earlier in the season in their only meeting. Once again the Storm took a 2-0 lead after the 1st period. The second period was evenly played as both teams scored making it 3-1 after the second period. The Storm caught fire in the third period and sealed the game with five goals and taking home 3rd place with a 8-1 victory.
The kids went into the tourney with their minds set on bringing home the Championship trophy. Following the Saturday nights loss to Brainerd there was not a dry eye in the locker room. It was great to see the kids pick themselves up from a heartbreaking loss, and come back Sunday and finish the tournament on a positive note.

MBA Storm Squirt Blue took home second place at the Fergus Falls tourney held January 17th and 18th. They opened up the quarter final round VS Osseo/Maple Grove. Trailing 1-0 following the first period the Storm came back with four unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead after two periods. The third period opened up with another goal from the Storm. OMG showed life coming back with two more goals, but the Storm held them off, and scored late in the third period to seal the game 7-3.
Their semi-final game matched them up VS St. Cloud. After a scoreless first period, St. Cloud came out and scored two unanswered goals to start the second period. The Storm came back to tie it up 2-2. St. Cloud got a goal with 42 seconds left in the second period to take the lead 3-2 to end the period. The Storm came out flying in the third period scoring three unanswered goals, taking a 5-3 lead. They didn't look back as St. Cloud scored one more time, and the Storm answered right back to take the game 6-4.
Sunday's Championship final faced the Storm up against North Metro. The Storm just didn't have enough left in the tank after two come from behind wins on Saturday. The Storm fell behind 4-0 in the first period. They were able to skate with them in the second period with each team getting a goal making the score 5-1. North Metro took control of the game in the third period by adding five more goals, and winning 10-1.
The boys skated hard, showed great teamwork, a no excuse mentality, and never gave up through out the tournament. Being the smallest team (9 skaters) in the tournament they showed great determination not be one upped by the bigger teams.
The kids created a larger fan base as many of the other teams coaches, fans, and players were rooting for them as they made their way through the bracket. At the start of the Tournament many were wondering where Benson is. By the end we had so many compliments on the way our team had played. We are very proud of our team and their accomplishment.
